Strange Folk

All right, cuties, I'll be heading to Strange Folk in O'Fallon this weekend. This is my second year at the show and I'm hoping that it will be even better. In addition to my usual fair, I'll be bringing some 'I heart Punk' onesies, some ninja bibs, a boatload of original artwork and t-shirts, t-shirts, t-shirts.
I'll post pics and report back on Sunday night.

the birth of a notion

The clever and wonderful Ellia over at Green Bean Baby gave me an idea. I'm going to work on a portrait series, very illustration-y, and turn them into ACEO-like cards. You know, like from a wonderful old Milton Bradley game. So, to go along with Sweet Bernadette, meet Clever Camile.

Camile is looking for a husband. I hope it's not yours. :)

Bernadette. Doesn't she remind you of Bernadette Peters? She does to me. Part of my 'Dames' series, she looks to me like she's waiting for a hot air balloon ride from a spring carnival.

Pink or Green...who can decide?

So, I saw this insane stacked braid hair do in a fashion layout and was inspired to make this beautiful geisha with the lopsided braid hive. They are both composed of the same colors except for the metallics.

Stop clammoring....it's finally here!

Hang in there...I'm going someplace with this

This is a lousy pic so consider it a sneak peek. Another variation on my Japanese girls series in two colorways.

One has a 'sky like' background and the other a flat color surface.

I'll post some better pics tomorrow but I'm really liking the pattern effect with the metallic paints.

I think I like this more than having the patterns in the corners.

I love my artwork. Others will love it, too.

I'm experimenting with making some glass pendants of my artwork. So far so good.

Maybe I should give one away as a test model?

Here she is. This is a piece I've been working on (off and on) to keep for myself. Here she is hanging over my red couch.

I love the patterns of origami paper and the mixing and matching of those patterns. It almost has a lacey look.

The bird was then conceived as a companion piece for this one. I then began to think about making off-setting companion birds for other of my japanese girl pieces.

So much inspiration and so little time.

I'm currently working on a large piece for my own living room and was inspired to create a companion piece....a satellite, if you will. I'm not ready to show off the big piece yet but here is the companion.

I've been fascinated with origami paper patterns lately.

Tired of this series yet? Good cuz I'm not. Although, I am thinking of moving from the more traditional to the more harajuku japanese girl.

I spent this weekend getting sunburned at a Japanese Festival, watching the FRUiT girls, the harajuku, the cosplay....so much fashion inspiration from Japan.
