Yumi Yumi art

I found Yumi Yumi's blog via the sidebar on Belle and Boo's blog. Something about this piece in particular struck my daughter's fancy. she fell. in. love.
This Lychee print is simply darling (forgive the crappy frame) and will look gorgeous in her Japanese themed room.
Run, don't walk to Yumi Yumi's shop and get some prints from the lovely and talented Aline.

A concept

The colors are all wrong but the idea is pretty much there. I think the red overpowers everything and perhaps the polka dots are too big. All in all, I'm pleased with the concept if not the composition.
Perhaps a more gothic color palette would set off the frame....

Also, I burned a new geisha design. As you can see by the 'ghosting', I didn't get a good print. I'll have to try again. I'm not sure if this will be a t-shirt design or an art print.

Bursts of creative energy. I spent the better part of saturday making a Goombella doll with my daughter. She and her dad spent the better part of 2 weeks defeating Paper Mario and to the victor go the spoils. The other is a new tee design I like to call 'Skully'. I didn't get a very good print so I'll have to make another one to photograph for the shop.
In the meantime, I've got some serious canvas ideas to work out once I can extract myself from this time votrex called 'la internet'.

Faces and frames

I've been toying with the 'framed pictures' concept lately. I think these would make a nice postcard series.
I've never been much of a collage person but I suppose that's an option, too.
I sent this gal in for the Etsy wall project.

Dandelions without birds
listed
Well, the new paintings (sans the weird brown and blue bird thing) have been listed in my shoppe. I'm getting some looks but no hearts which is disheartening (pun intended)
So, tonight, I will be working on a new, bird-free piece and then settling down to a viewing of High School Musical 2 with my family. Saturday nights are family movie night at the homestead.

Silkscreen as ART

okay, I'm starting to screen on canvas. Be kind.
I figure, I'll do some different color combinations in a series. Then, after I do my canvas series, if it's successful, I'll do a paper series and charge less. Maybe use some japanese fiber paper.... hmmm.
The background is kind of a marbled blue and white with hints of yellow and pink. It's hard to tell from the picture.

First concerts

I spent saturday taking my daughter (9) to her first rock concert. Luckily, she still has good taste in music. Drake Bell....check him out.
Oh, and Pink willow designs gave me a loving shout-out.

I. Am. Short. epilogue
Later the same evening, my family and I went out of town to see a movie. After a singularly horrible choice of dinner accomodations, I stopped at the Walgreens for some rolaids soft chews. As I approached the customer-free counter, the checkout lady said, 'I almost didn't see you! You suffer from vertical challenge, dontcha?' (poor grammar, notwithstanding)
Feeling like a pygmy on display at the natural museum of history, I said, 'oh yes, I'm hardly visible to the naked eye. '
This is getting seriously ridiculous. I'm slightly over 5 feet tall and yet to read these stories, you'd begin thinking I was somewhere in the neighborhood of three apples high. Tom Thumb ain't go nothin' on me.

I. Am. Short.
Once again today, I was reminded of something. A fact that is inescapable to me but seems to take others by surprise: I am short. Let me clarify – I’m not petite, not tiny, not wee, not child-sized, not small – I am the classic definition of short. I look like a normal sized person who has been reduced down to her most basic core. I have no filler added…like say, a torso or that superfluous 6 inches of leg that so many others have. And today, this did not go unnoticed.
“Have you shrunk?” a co-worker asked me.
“I’m wearing flats,” I said matter-of-factly.
“I never noticed that you were this short before, “ observed the co-worker who’d worked with me for the last 6 years.
This usually happens when someone sees me standing next to a tall person. The reason for this, I believe is that, if you saw me seated, you’d never know I was short. I don’t have that elfin look of those tiny tiny people who are simply the size of children. I prefer to think of it as ‘no frills’.
Still, I find it odd when people seem surprised by the fact.
