50 Word Fiction

She flashed a smile. Her honey-colored hair was pulled into a sleek ponytail. Her green velvet jacket complemented beautifully both her pendant and her eyes. From turtleneck to trousers to boots, she was the epitome of style and grace. And, if only for a moment, I hated her for it.

bad photos and dust

So, here's the 'so far' on my feudal family chess set. I've got the emperor and empress (king and queen, natch) geisha (bishop), samurai (knight) and ninja (pawn). I need a rook. I was thinking perhaps a pagoda? a katana? Please ignore the dust on the shelf.

This is a kind of bad photo of my latest finished painting. I'll get a better scan of it tomorrow. In the meantime, I think I've got this encaustic thing licked. Hopefully, i'll have pictures of that tomorrow.

Reiko's Tree

I love these little painted gals, if I do say so myself. My plan is to create a whole chess set. This would be the 'queen' or Empress in my version.

Apple Harvest

Tea towel prototype! I thought my apple pattern kinda screamed 'kitchen' so I printed up a flour sack tea towel. I think I like the closer print of the bottom three more than the spaced out top 3.
This is right after printing. It needs seriously ironed.

While my encaustic gently weeps

So, while I'm trying to figure out how to make wax into art, I thought I'd also re-energize my greeting card line. What do you think of this one?

She's Encaustic

Experiment 1 - The good news is, I learned something. I was using a regular iron and it was way too big for this plaque. I needed to use something smaller on smaller pieces.

Secondly, I should have used a hair dryer for the second layer. Everything blended together with the iron.

Encaustic

On advice from my guru, life guide, Pink, I invested in some encaustic paint supplies. Tonight, I'm going to try my hand at hot wax painting. I'm hoping this will be more successful than my adventures in acrylic paint. And if not, a little turpentine and linseed oil puts me back in the oil painting biz. Then, when I'm a star, you can say you were there for the beginning :)

Bag of Apples

I took another shot at making a bag of some sort. This one is sans zipper, which is better for me. The lining is a fabu Finlandia print but the outside is allllll meeee.
I'm thinking of making a silkscreen of my apple pattern so I can print larger pieces of fabric.
My stitchwork isn't exactly invisible but I'm getting better.

On advice from the fabulous Pink, I designed some environmental cotton shopping bags for the greenies among us.

As always, I printed it on t-shirts, too.

Ga-ga for Geisha

My mirrors have arrived! I fashioned some geisha face felt pouches for them and viola...geishas a-go-go.

Bertie's Dream

Next in a series called 'Um, Obsessed Much?' (okay, not really) is 'Bertie's Dream'. It's hard to tell from the pic but those are pansies on the shoreline.

This little gem is the first in a new series I'm cooking up called Portrait of Lady. Please ignore the wood panelling in the game room and the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari dolls that are holding up my painting.

That delightful diva of dollies, Desiree, has sent me a scrumptious little darling. Isn't he just the cutest thing ever? What a delightful surprise! Thank you so much for this adorable dollie. Now, how to keep my daughter from swiping it....hmmm

I think I'll call him Bertie.

Oh, and I painted a little swan during Heroes. I'm on a swan kick ever since I watched Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Sweet Productivity

I screened two new tote designs over the weekend, made four dollies, painted on canvas, more birds and one chipmunk. I love weekends. I need more of them.

More Dollies

You can see Caffrey has a terrible looking external seam on one arm. That's because I almost sewed her completely up without leaving a place to flip and fill her. Oops.

Mermaid

Mermaid dolly! I made the prototype out of flannel and cotton yarn with a button bikini. Aint she cute?

My daughter has already snapped her up.

More Birdies

More birdies. I painted up some more birdie plaques...even though my first ones didn't exactly set the art world on fire...

I like this series. I'm thinking that after birds, I'll do some chipmunks.

The Softie Machine

So, I'm taking a stab at making a dollie. Not just any dollie, mind you, but a geisha doll. So far, I've got a hairless gal in her undies...with pins in her side. Now, she all she needs is a lovely kimono.

I'm also thinking that a mermaid dollie would be good. Perhaps a ninja, too.

Birdie Birdies bye bye

I painted up these little sweeties this evening. I went for something more 'photo-realistic' this time and I think I like it. These little guys are pretty small painted on wooden plaques. Should I offer them as a set or individually?

If Wishes Were Fishes

It's official. I've got Spring Fevah. I just can't seem to concentrate on anything. I want to go home and play with my paints and fabrics. Or maybe sip a soda in the sunshine.

Or maybe climb a tree and sit in it all day.

I'm in progress on window clings, dollies and some new paintings. Their just aren't enough hours in the day.

vacation...all I ever wanted

Ah, I'm dreaming of beaches and sunny destinations. Especially after Pink blogged of sugar-white beaches and cocktails.

I'm dreaming of salty air and warm breezes and never-ending mojitos. Aaaahhh.

I'll have to settle for a Clive Owen film and a fuzzy chartruese.

Geisha the onesie

So, I burned a screen of my geisha design but I'm not 100% sold on the 'all one color look' so I tried to use it like a stencil.

This is the first prototype. I like the 2 color look but the stencilling is a tad sloppy around the edges. I think I might try to screen it in stages next.

I want a Gocco. Anybody wanna buy me one?

Oh, and I decided (after consulting with my daughter) to go with Midori AND Reiko. Midori is the one in green since I associate her name with this melon flavored beverage.

All Geishas All The Time

So, lately my head has been filled with visions of dancing geishas. The round designs are on their way to Chicago to be made into mirrors. I figure I'll make little felt geisha head pouches for them as well.

The other panel is printed fabric. I'm thinking that I'll make it into a tote bag.

A name: I'm thinking my dancing geisha should be either Reiko or Midori. What do you think? I like Midori but it makes me think of green melon liquor.

Style Statement

After reading about this over at Casapinka, I think I've come up with my style statement: Cosmopolitan Caustic.....or maybe Contemporary Clutter.
