Sydney's Zoo - Bird Balloons

I'm really really liking this technique. I think I might do all of 'Sydney's Zoo' in this manner.

Does her green dress get too lost in the grass? I could make it more of a yellowish green. Dare I say 'pear green'?

Sydney's Zoo series

I've been working on a series called Sydney's Zoo and now I'm thinking about doing each piece in a different medium. The first was one of my cutesy illustrations of Sydney riding a whale. This next piece is one of my newest obsession photoshopping a drawing. Hmmm...what next?

hand-drawn digitally colored

So, I played around with the idea of drawing a hand piece and then scanning and coloring in photoshop. I turned to threshold first....I think I won't next time.

I wasn't crazy about the dark outlines on the face so I colored over them.

updated: oh yeah, waaaay better without the heavy outline.

I'm Bringing Whimsy Back

Though I'm still working on my tree bride series, I had this whimsical little idea and had to get it out of my noggin'.

I'm also stuck on pears.

Tweaking...but not the meth way

I made some minor adjustments that I think improve the overal composition: smaller chin, less 'overhead' and more branch definition.

I like her. She's feeling finished to me.

So, I tried my hand at producing my digital birdies in paint. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. I'll have to do something bigger now.

Over the Threshold

So, in the interest of experimentation, I converted one of my scans to threshold to see what it would look like. Sort of changes the whole tone of the piece, don't ya think?

It's official

I need help. I learned yesterday that if people can easily find my work, they will buy it. So, how do I get them to notice me? What are some actually beneficial advertising venues? What can I do to increase awareness of my goods?
Any ideas?

I want to work some more on her face but otherwise, I'm pretty pleased with this one so far. I think I'll spend this week revisiting some existing pieces and tweaking them.

I need to get this scanned on a bigger scanner. Mine will only hand 9x12. I still need to make some tweaks but this is so far, my favorite offering.

I recently created too different pieces inspired by two different nieces (hey, that was seussical)

One for my half-Chinese neice in digital and one painted for my Wizard of Oz loving neice.

Apples

Alright, here are the apple gals. There's something so primevil about women and apples...all that 'Eve' stuff, I suppose. So here are the daughters of Eve brandishing their tempting apples.

Work in progress. I'm not 100% happy with her hand so I thought I'd scan it and then mess with it in photoshop in a 'trial and error sort of way.

After I did the first painting with an apple, I decided to incorporate an apple into each one of the expressions series.

I suppose golden delicious is next.

NERVOUS ME

Alright, it's out there. I listed my first 'real' painting. Gulp. Cute ninjas, everyone loves but me trying to do actual art? Oye.

I tweaked her nose a little in photoshop. I think I like it better with a shorter nose. I'll make the change to the original painting this evening.

I came up with this concept based on an old drawing I had done when I was working on facial expressions. She looks so sad and nervous so I gave her a reason to be such.

This Blog is Condemed

...for being BORING. I've been told that I've been funny, helpful and occasionally insightful commenting on other blogs yet when the time comes to add content to my own, i get 'Fire Bad - Tree Pretty'. Argh.
Performance Anxiety? Intimacy Issues? perhaps. There is something so 'exposed' about this online stuff. Perhaps I have a lame blog so that I don't experience rejection of my 'soul laid bare'. Or maybe I watch too many psych-dramas.
I mean, a picture is worth a 10000 words, right? so why not spare the carpal tunnel and just stick with picture posts? I agree.

A preview...

Tonight, I'm going to list my first ever limited edition print set. I'm giddy with anticipation. This is something that real artists do, not silly girls who doodle ninjas and shoes in the margins of their notebooks. Maybe ninjas do grow up.

This is not to scale. Each print will be 8 x 10.

After I retire the print, I might print a post card series. I'm also thinking of doing some unrelated cherry blossom pendants. So much work...so little time.

More painting goodness

I'm not sure that she feels 'finished' to me. There's something about her face that is troubling me.
