Here's my Faux-keshi (not a real kokeshi). Notice her button parasol? Nice.
And here's round 400 of encaustic painting. Still very much in progress.

Hanging a Parasol

So, I lied. Here's more of the room unveiling. Darling Mini came home saturday night and was utterly speechless when she saw her new room. She literally stood in the middle of the floor with her mouth open. It was brilliant.

It's hard to see but in the ceiling, we drilled in a white plant hook. We then laced some elastic thread through the handle and tied it in a loop. Then we hooked the loop over the plant hook and then twisted the open parasol to achieve the desired length. The walls then stabilize the parasol. ta da.

I'm voting Saxon

I've got an idea: Zombelia - a quirky french zombie who cracks open skulls like creme brulee.

last post about my daughter's room

I promise:)

Here's the bed...the final piece. Oh, and the pillows I made for it. The wrinkled kimono hanging on the ladder is mine from the 80's. I'm amazed it isn't dust.

and here are some stickers! Lil' Zombies!

In six days, she returns

My darling daughter, Mini, will return from California in six days and her room makeover is almost complete. We finally found the bed we wanted and it's being delivered tomorrow. I'll have pictures of that later. So far, we've layered the geta on the goa, hung the parasol, placed the geisha, shelved the lucky cats and the 'faux-keshi.

So, I haven't been very productive shopwise lately. One, because of a nasty bout of bronchitis I can't seem to shake and two because of other non-etsy related projects eating up my time. So, I'd like to dedicate this weekend to production. I've got some new ideas/designs swirling about so here's the question: what do I do?

Do people really buy:
tea towels

I've been working on a new card line, reviving some old faves and adding some new. And I've bought some pieces to make some new jewelry bits. ooo, secret-ish
and since everything needs pictures, here's something I've been working on for my own entertainment. One of these gals is based on my daughter and the others are nieces.

Dolly Post!

So, I finished my first geisha dolly! This one is for decorating my daughter's room. It's not perfect but it is perfectly cute.

Look at her cheekily posing by the Battle Royal book.

The Way of the Gunn

So, after reading a recent interview with the fabulous Tim Gunn (if you don't who Tim Gunn is, please leave now and get yourself schooled in the way of the Gunn) I decided to do some much needed closet pruning this weekend. I chose this weekend because I wanted to find my kimono for my daughter's room makeover.

Anyhoodle, check out the carnage.

So elsewhere, here's another update on my geisha. I think I'm going to put a whisper pink color behind her head and calligraphy some kanji around the edges and she's done.

So, I'm heading off to the city today to hit the asian grocery and the world market. I'm looking for Japanese items to decorate my daughter's room.
Any ideas on what I should look for? I'll be spending the next 2 weeks on this mighty quest.

WIP it good

This is a piece I'm working on for my daughter's total room makeover. She's vacationing on the coast with grandm'ma until the end of the month so we are re-doing her bedroom. Since she's hopelessly in love with all things japanese, we're doing a ....wait for it...JAPANESE theme. woo.

Presenting a partially painted geisha. I'm attempting to make the background look like origami paper.

Tea Service Unveiled

Alrighty humanoids, here's my first oil painting in about 9 yrs: behold Tea Service.

Tea Service

So, my encaustic endeavors, which have been a bit lackluster, have lead me to rekindle my love affair with oil paints. Oil paints offer a richness...a depth that I can't seem to achieve with acrylics. And thus, 'Tea Service' was born.

I haven't decided if I'm 100% finished with this one but I'm easily 98% of the way home.

My husband calls this one 'Alice' because he thinks it has an Alice in Wonderland dimension.

cardy card card

So, I've been putting some thought into my card line. I don't really want to do the 'alterna' card with the 'you suck' type messages. I think that's been done and better by others. I'm more down with the cute and funny. I made this one sort of by accident. I was trying to make a version of my 'bowl-headed' chess people.
