yarn storm

I put some yarn up on my Etsy store. I have more to list, too. I'm such a hoarder. Whenever I get on a new kick, I go overboard....bananas. I have totes of fabric, toyboxes of yarn, boxes of beads, paint, fimo clay...you name it.
Well, the theme for 2006 is organize and the easiest way to organize is to simplify.

online yard sale

I'm thinking about selling some of the yarn and fabric I've been hoarding over the years. I've got some Painting Red Rhinos fabric, some cashmere yarn and some other things that I've lost interest in. I think ebay might be the way to go on that.

Jewelry swap

I received these in the mail from the latest PurplePinkandOrange swap. This one was a handmade jewelry swap. I sent a glass marble bracelet and a knitted rose pin.

I'm thinking about expanding my kiwi cuties line to include lip balm and possibly shower gel. I'm also in the process of adding stickers and more keychains to my roster. Maybe I should just sell the charms so that they can be cell phone charms or bracelet charms or whatever. hmm. I've toyed with magnets, too, but I think maybe those should be promotional. Maybe just put my banner and url on them. what do you think?

over-reaching part II

Blogger was having problems last night so I couldn't get the illustration for my post to load.

this is the illustration of claire that would accompany the doll.

Tuesday, January 24, 2006

I had this idea... I could create a character that I could put on a shirt and create in rag doll form. Am I over-reaching?

I had an idea...

I was thinking about combining my tee designs with dolls...doing a series of rag dolls and then featuring them on tees...each with their own personality and traits. The first one I've been working on is called "Claire". I'm not sure how far I want to take this though...

I got my mini xyron magnet/sticker machine Saturday. Wooo. I'm so totally hooked.

I also got some lazertran paper from Dick Blick. I got the kind that requires varnishing unfortunately. I thought it was the heat set kind. Has anyone else tried this stuff?

So far, the results are mixed. I'm hoping the stickers are better than the magnets.

taking the plunge...

okay, I finally tried my hand at photo emulsion silk screening.

My technique still needs work but after 2 tries I finally got my screen proper.

Screw Self-Doubt!

I just got my first props at Addic(tee)d.com. CHECK IT OUT! Nothing like a little virtual ink to boost a gal's confidence. WOOOO

the jitters

now that I've had some success in selling my tee designs, I'm wrestling with self-doubt. What if they aren't high quality enough? What if I've peaked? What if I never have another good idea after this? How do you keep the doubters and haters out of your head?

Silk Screen

I took the plunge today and ordered some photo emulsion silkscreening supplies from Dick Blick. My half bath will serve as a dark room and by this weekend, I hope to be screening ninjas instead of heat pressing them. I haven't done any silk screening since high school. (yikes)

**my first batch of keychains are up on Etsy. huzzah.

Future Rockstar

On request, I modified my furture rockstar design from red and black to pink and black. I think I like the pink better. I'm going to try several different colors for this one. I think it's very versatile.

keychains and charms

In an attempt to broaden my creative horizons, I made some 'shrinky dink' key chain and bracelet charms. I'm still very much in the trial and error stage but I got a couple of them to turn out.

New Year, new start

KiWi Cuties, my line of tees and bibs, is now exclusively available through Etsy at Kiwicuties.etsy.com. It was saddening to make a break from the first site to give me a chance but it needed to be done.
Now, I have to decide if I'm going to continue with my children's designs or if I should concentrate on my ninja series.

branching out

On the advice of the brilliant and fabulous folks at Craftster, I've decided to branch my ninjas out beyond the t-shirt realm. Now, the question becomes....where to? Stickers? Magnets? Key chains? A while back, I made a shrinky dink charm bracelet out of ninjas but the shrinky plastic is so thin. Maybe if I super glued two of them back to back....

tough desisions

With great sadness, I decided to leave one of the webshops that I was associated with. I realize that it takes time for a startup to ...well, start up, but I honestly don't think that my style meshed with the rest of the designers. I wish them all the very best of luck.
I'm actually considering abandoning my 'children' designs. My ninja series is the most popular design on my Etsy site so I think I'll concentrate on new ninja designs.

Stupid New Year's Resolutions

As part of a larger resolution, I've given up coffee and soda. Now I feel like an extra from Shaun of the Dead. I'm having the D.T.s and it ain't pretty.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm a gigantic geek. I was raised with an older brother who was majorly into comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, british television...the whole geek package. It's like medichlorians in the bloodstream, ya know?
Well, lately, I've been brought back to my geekiest roots squealing all the way by the new Doctor Who. I thought that after Christopher Eccleston, I'd never be able to love another Doctor again (of course, I thought that after Tom Baker, too) but this new Doctor has renewed my enthusiasm.
However, there won't be any new episodes until Spring now. ARGH!
I guess I'll have to watch reruns of Deep Space Nine and and Angel to tide me over.

oh, yeah, and bring back Captain Jack Hotness...i mean, Harkness.

I Want Candy

Who doesn't like Candy? And for that matter, who doesn't like Daily Candy? Well, today's candy was just as little sweeter because it featured ETSY! Have you had your candy today?

Daddy's Basic Instinct

I made this design for my daughter who is a total daddy's girl. My husband, upon seeing the creation, commented that the t-shirt gal ought to have her legs crossed. Is he right? Is she looking all 'Sharon Stone' in the image?
Or is my husband merely insane?
