Goodbye 2005....and good riddance.

If you ever get the chance, go see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra live. It's spectacular.

Swap at the Swap Meet

After participating in my first Pinkpurpleandorange swap (which was a thrift swap), I received this lovely placemat (a set of 4 total) that complements my shamrock green fiesta dishes.

Thank you Sarah from New York for the fabulous dinner accoutrement.

2005 - it's almost over

In an effort to wrap up this horrible, no-good, very bad year, I'll my favorite things of 2005 (based soley on my opinion)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Serenity
Sin City
Get Behind Me Satan - The White Stripes
Nicole Richie's dramatic reinvention
my new neice, Frankie
Perez Hilton, Pink is the new blog and all the gossip gods and goddesses
American Idiot - Green Day
Heather Ross's Lightning Bugs fabric line
Post Secret
The online community: Hillary, Lyn, Amanda, Heidi, Beth and Krista and countless others.
and last but not least, finally starting my KiWi Cuties line.

KiWi Cuties are now on Etsy

I decided to open an Etsy shop for some of my edgier designs that wouldn't really fit into the Custom Mom shop. these designs are for older humans.
So, check me out at KiWi Cuties.

This will probably become the primary home for my ninja based designs.

I am not a bug

These designer were inspired by two random sentenced blurted out loudly between two arguing sisters, aged 8 and 13, during a family pre-Christmas gathering. I made these shirts for them but I think the themes are universal.

Stick with me

I'm working on some new concepts for older t-shirt wearers. I've been trying to work out a design with aliens to go with my ninjas.
I've also made some shirts that I'll post tomorrow based on some random pieces of a conversation that my husband's 13 and 9 yr old cousin were having in my kitchen.

in the meantime, Merry Christmas, ya'll.

Deploy the Ninjas!

Sorry, I had to deploy the ninjas. You people brought this on yourselves. :)

New Products at Custom Mom

Bolstered by my first sale, I created some new designs that are currently available.

Having Babies Knows No Season

Now that I'm officially on the map, I felt like I needed a healthy dose of self promotion.
If you haven't already, check out KiWi Cuties at Custom Mom.

Bibs, tees and onesies for girls, boys and baby. I think I'm going to incorporate some crystals into my next design....hmmm, maybe some fancy kitties or some little princesses.

No Frickin' Way

It would appear that I finally sold something of mine on Custom Mom! I'm officially not a failure.

Saturday, December 17, 2005

I only open little blue t-shirts...

I wish I'd seen this soon enough to get one for my sister.
I saw their ad in the back of Life and Style magazine (shut up, you read it too) and hit their site.
Well, her birthday is in February so maybe I'll tuck this one into the vault.

The Cure for What Ails Ya

Carrying me through this recent bout of illness has been my growing obsession with The White Stripes and it's creepily attractive front man, Jack White. Nothing like blues flavored guitar licks to bring a body back from the dead.

I'd classify Jack as a guitar god at this point even though I know that's a term general reserved for some stale and crusty relic of the motohead generation.

I'd give mad props to Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz....got love for Vernon Reid....and Radiohead for producing that massive 'chunk' in the song 'Creep'. It's interesting because normally, I go all gooey for piano players...which Jack is also..hmm.

I'm a bad little blogger

please forgive my absentee blogging this week. I've been hit with the stomach flu. and when I say 'hit', I mean 'destroyed' and when I say 'stomach flu', I mean 'my internal organs being liquified'. Hopefully, I'll be back on my game tomorrow.

Gorgeous

I saw this link on thimble's blog and I wondered how they made it. Do you think this is a felted bucket hat or did they sew it from felt?

I've never had good luck at felting hats.

Check this one out at Copacetique

Milkyway and the Galaxy Girls

Check out these ultra crazy, sassy, cool, sweet characters from Lauren Faust: Milkyway and the Galaxy Girls. How amazingly cute are these? My daughter is going to lose her mind over this.

Swap time

I have received my first swap partner for my first pinkpurpleandorange swap and since I'm pretty sure my swapee will look here for clues as to who I am, I thought I'd make it easy.

I am someone who loves:
shoes
celebrity gossip
handbags
vintage clothing, books, knicknaks, hats, etc
christmas ornaments
pink (the color, not the singer)
Ben Folds
tea cups
socks of all colors, patterns and lengths
burberry plaids
cardigans (the sweaters, not the band)
Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy
bangle bracelets

I am someone who does not like:
swooshy nylon track pants
sweatshirts with doilies and things hot-glued to them
holiday themed clothing on people over the age of 13
racism
hairspray
clowns
war
most network television
stale popcorn at the movies

I'm am someone who:
writes for a living
knits
sews
draws
embellishes
and occasionally bakes

ooooh, shiny

behold! I have succeeded in my first experiment with heat-transfer crystals. This just opened up a whole new world of bling for my designs. Onesies with bling initials....bibs with bling collars...kids t's with hearts and stars and letters and numbers...

Some grandmas are just great

I made this design for my husband's grandmother who was frustrated by the lack of great-grandmother items that are available for babies.
I'd guess that's because great-grandmas are rare. This will be heading to that new neice of mine for Christmas. Gee, I hope they don't let her see my blog. (yeah, okay, she's a month old...)

Tipsy the penguin

Inspired by the photos of Lyn's penguin lost weekend, I doodled up a soon-to-be holiday favorite, Tipsy the penguin.
Tipsy likes to go to the office christmas party, have a couple of tuna martinis and get this party started.

Pandaphelia - there is no known cure

Inspired by Lyn's adorable panda purse I made this cute little guy who is soon to be listed on Custom Mom

There's just something so darned adorable about panda bears.

Additional: maybe I'm on to something here. My daughter flipped over the panda face. she wants a t-shirt of one. hmmm. Pandaphelia is contageous.

Since I've already got one homage, let's go for 2. After talking with the insanely talented Heidi Kenney yesterday, I started doodling this little guy. What do you think? Is he bib material?

Crafty goodness

The first one is a green onesie with similar to the pink one I made but smaller and with different spacing. The second one is a characture of Dr. Who characters on the request of my brother. He's sending it to a friend in the UK. Hey, I'm international.

Now, on a non-crafty note, I got this beauty in Tiburon, CA at a lovely boutique. Now, is it a pashmina or a poncho? a ponchmina?

I'm NOT going like Elsie

Okay, so I was seriously considering giving up on the idea that I could make money with KiWi Cuties (the bibs and tees) but I decided not to give up on myself...just yet. It's too soon to throw in the bib. I'm gonna make it after all. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again! (was that too over the top? I can never tell.)

So go, leave this blog and check out CUSTOM MOM to make a young..ish gal's dreams come true.

Christmas wish list: the beginning

Dear Santa, for Christmas, I would like the following:
Vintage Sister lipbalm
some P/Kaufman fabric
Body Shop liquid lip color (why yes, I am obsessed with my lips)
These candy ornaments from Pier One

These utterly cool greek take-out coffee mugs

CB2's glasses">Tall Tini glasses
and...whatever else I think of...:)

Love, KiWi

Home again home again jiggity jig

We just got back from a week in California where we check out the Monterey Aquarium, the Golden Gate bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Union Square, sailing on the bay, lots of sushi, cold stone creamery and too much shopping.
Baby Frankie had her first Thanksgiving and we discovered the yummy goodness that is Odwalla bars.

Pictured is my daughter at Ocean Beach. It was about 65 degrees...it's about 30 degrees here at home.

Hello, dolly

This is my all-time favorite model wearing a Lion Suede hat that I made for my little niece but it looks so good on her that I'll need to make one for Miss Kitty, too.

Dollies

Meet Claire and Rowanne. Claire is from southeastern Indiana and her cousin, Rowanne, is visiting from Arizona. Rowanne is hoping to see some snow before she heads back home.

After seeing Hilary's snowbabies, maybe I should knit them some sweaters and hats.

additional: my daughter seems to think their names should be Jenna and Nikki.

oh, phildar...

I love phildar patterns. Especially their children's patterns. The new Tricotez Câlin is up on their french site to preview and drool over.

The only place I can get these is at at French Canadian knit shop called Knit N' Tyme. Unfortunately, most of these patterns don't come translated and there's only so much 'pidgeon french' I can muddle through.

working...

so, like any good craftster, I've got about 6 projects going right now. During a particularly dull meeting at work, I had a vision of knitted flowers with fabric centers. So, I began experimenting with pink cotton flowers and some mostly pink quilt fabric scraps I had laying about.

I'm also working on silk screening. Very basic process, too. I'm nowhere near ready for photo emulsion but I hope to get there eventually. What better place to start than with ninjas?

I'm also working on some new designs for Custom Mom.

Gift guide - the next post

Candlemomo

I am in love with these kimono fabric hair pins by Momo

Gigi's Jewels

Big love for these bracelets. These remind me of the italian glass bracelets that I got in Las Vegas at the Venetian.

Friday, November 11, 2005

these are a few of my favorite things...

Marimekko
I love love love Marimekko's bold graphic prints but cringe in horror at the price per yard. However, all is not lost as they are now offering tea towels. Hmmm, tea towel aprons....small pouches...ipod cozies...headbands...

I also love the coasters and mugs. I'm a sucker for mod flowers.

Baubles Boutique

When my darling daughter was born, there weren't a plethora of stylish options for moms. Sure, if you wanted to look like a layer cake, K-mart could hook you up but otherwise, you were SOL. Now, check out these gorgeous bags available at Custom Mom

Seriously, you should have seen the blue nylon nightmare that I carried at the time. How things have changed.

My Paper Crane

My daughter and I stalk this site checking to see what Heidi will come up with next...like pb and j sandwiches.

The Next Generation

WOO! Over at Allsorts, the delightful and fabulous Jenny B. Harris hosted a 13 Days of Halloween costume and my daughter, Sydney, was first runner up!!! She absolutely loved dressing the adorable Zoe in all of the Halloween finery.

Swappy goodness

I just signed up for my first Purple Pink and Orange swap! It's the December Thrift swap which sounds divine. I loooooooove thrifting. Ever since I was a child going to garage sales I've loved the thrill of the hunt. It's like digging for buried treasure. My best find would have to be my vintage 80's drawstring Louis Vuitton bag for $20.

out of site

we had our official grand opening announcement on Custommom.com tonight. I've been working on some new designs but I'm waiting to see what, if anything, sells out of my current offerings before I embark on anything new. Lately, I've been focusing on 'mom oriented' items rather that baby items.

Heather Ross is back!

Heather Ross of Munki Munki fame is back with a new line. I've been stalking Cia's Palette waiting for it and JCaroline got some in the meantime. Hurray!

Unfortunately, JCaroline doesn't seem to have the gnomes.
